Buyer tool / Compare offers
A lower rate is only the beginning of a comparison.
Put two offers on the same annual usage and fee basis. Then review what the numbers leave out.
Editable example inputs, not current market quotes. Values stay in this tab.
Offer A is $300 lower per year under these inputs.
This compares entered supply charges and monthly fees only. It does not compare utility delivery, demand, taxes, variable pass-throughs, deposits, credits or termination costs.

What the calculation does
Electricity cost equals annual kWh × cents per kWh ÷ 100, plus twelve monthly supplier fees. Gas cost equals annual therms × dollars per therm, plus twelve monthly supplier fees. A flat rate is assumed throughout the year; this tool does not forecast an index contract.
Example: when the cheaper rate costs more
At 240,000 kWh, 9.2¢/kWh with no monthly supplier fee totals $22,080. At 9.0¢/kWh plus $65 each month, the total is $22,380. Offer A is $300 lower on those entered components. These are illustrative figures, not quotes or savings claims.
Before comparing gas units
A therm measures energy; Mcf measures volume. Do not treat a rate per Mcf as a rate per therm. Use the heat-content conversion on the actual utility bill. A generic conversion can misstate costs.
Why this is not a total-bill forecast
Some contracts include capacity, transmission or gas transport; others pass them through. Demand charges, tax treatment, minimum usage and termination provisions may outweigh a small supply-rate difference. Read the price schedule and exclusions alongside the supplier agreement.
